Last February, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions announced an expansion of their grounds by 49 ha. This expansion at the Bastenakenquay means that the company will nearly double its terminal footprint. WW will invest 40 million dollar or 34,3 mllion euros in their grounds in Zeebrugge.

In 1999 Wallenius Wilhelmsen became active in Zeebrugge. Since then the group expanded their activities with the handling of new cars, technical support for high & heavy machinery and other terminal services. Since March the Norwegian group changed its commercial structure which was divided into two entities: Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions and Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean. All land based operations are now managed by Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions and all shipping activities are controlled by Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean.

Their latest investment went to the installation of ten current-generation wall battery charging units. Each station has the capacity of charging 20 vehicles. In one hour time the cars will have enough energy for a driving range of up to  125 km. It’s important that the electric vehicles can be charged so they won’t run out of energy during transportation. When a vehicle’s battery completely drains, it can be nearly impossible to get access to the vehicle, this can disrupt the workflow aboard a vessel or at the terminal. Which means extra costs can be involved. Therefore WW Solutions also invested in trailers so that the electric vehicles can safely be moved from and to the charging stations.
