New rail service between Zeebrugge and Nancy (FR)

  • Spoor

Since last month, a cargo train between Zeebrugge and Nancy is handled three times a week at C.Ro Ports Zeebrugge. The service aims at cargo from the region Nancy in France with destinations in the UK and Scandinavia and vice versa.

The new rail connection between Zeebrugge and Nancy started the 15th of May.

The trains for this service are handled at the C.Ro Ports Zeebrugge terminal in the Brittania dock, which offers daily departures to the United Kingdom, Ireland and Scandinavia.

The trains pass through the brand new terminal in Bettembourg, Luxemburg, which is operated by CFL (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois) before arriving in Nancy. Nancy offers daily connections to Fos sur Mer in Marseille.

The frequency is 3 times a week, with only one day between the destinations Zeebrugge and Nancy. The service is open to all port clients and loads both 45 foot containers, trailers and swap bodies. Transport Vigneron, the initiative taker on this route, hopes to increase the frequency soon.

Great benefits for the sector are the fast transit time for cargo from the Nancy region towards the UK and Scandinavia via Zeebrugge and also the tonnage advantage when choosing rail over road. (limited to 44 tonnes via rail versus 40 tonnes via road)
