The port authority appointed in April a permanent representative in Pune, India. Sven De Wachter represents and promotes in India Zeebrugge as prominent gateway to the markets on the European continent and the British isles.
Sven De Wachter has considerable experience in the automotive industry, which constitutes a major sector for Zeebrugge. India is gaining ground in the automotive business and therefore Zeebrugge wants to keep a close eye on this growth economy. De Wachter is stationed in Pune, the heart of the Indian automotive industry. He runs his own company "Wachter Oriental", which for one thing, gives advice to Indian companies on how to open up European markets and for another, illustrates to Zeebrugge companies the opportunities of the Indian market.
The port authority already has representatives in Japan and China. Since 1994 Mr Chisato Watanabe represents our coastal port in Tokio and since 2009 Zeebrugge's interests are protected in Shanghai by Mr Jan Vannieuwenburg.
Opening these offices in the Far East is part of the Asia strategy set out by the Zeebrugge port authority, both for container and new car traffics.
