By 2016 the A11 will be built. It constitutes a highway of 12 kilometers which, with respect for nature and the living conditions, connects the N49 Knokke-Antwerp and the N31 Bruges-Zeebrugge. This missing link will largely contribute to the opening up of Zeebrugge by road.
The A11, which is a 2x2 connection, will allow to split the through traffic, mostly trucks to and from the port, and the local traffic. Therefore tunnels and bridges will be necessary.
In addition to the new highway, existing local roads will be improved. Also a bicycle route network will be added.
The costs for the A11 are estimated at 344 million euros.
