During the first six months of the year the general cargo throughput in Zeebrugge rose by 21 % to a volume of 24.8 million tons.
The roll-on/roll-off traffic keeps picking up. In the first semester the volume accounted for 6.1 million tons. This is an increase of 44.1 % in comparison to the same period in 2009. A volume of 781,709 new cars was handled. This is 30 % more than in the first semester of 2009, but still a decrease of 30 % in comparison to the first semester in record year 2007.
The container traffic rose by a quarter to 13.7 million tons. In teu the volume increased by 21.8 % to 1,252,241 units.
The conventional cargo registered a growth of 45.3 % to a volume of 516,623 tons. There was more transhipment of wood pulp.
The liquid bulk dropped by 11.1 % to 3.6 million tons. Less LNG was supplied.
The solid bulk fell back by 2.7 % to 862,637 tons.
