Zeebrugge is a global platfomr for thehandling of new cars. The temporary record measures more than 2,2 million treated unities on annual basis. At the end of 2008 the world-wide financial crisis arose, which resulted in an economic recession and a tender decrease of the sales of cars. In 2009 the total amount of new cars decreased with 40%. Nevertheless Zeebrugge didn't lose any market share during this period.
The low capacity occupation and operating profit undermine commercial investments. Companies are waiting for better demand prospects and better occupation of the existing capacity in order to invest amply again. The hesitant attitude of companies influences the situation on the labour market. This contributes to the fact that a spectacular recovery family consumption is not possible in the short term.
